Greenwood's first newspaper was a little folder about eight by ten inches. It was called "Greenwood Gazette" and was owned and edited by Charles W. Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was an experienced and educated man. Owing to the limited population at that time the experiment was soon ended. In 1889 the "Greenwood Headlite" was published. The locals were collected by Henry "Hank" Johnson and the paper was printed at Neillsville. In 1891 W. H. Spears brought the first printing press to Greenwood and with George Begley started the "Greenwood Gleaner". Later editors were Henry H. Hartson, (1892-1898); John Elmer Noyes, and again H. H. Hartson. After Mr. Hartson became the owner for a second time, he hired Max Baldwin as editor and in the year (1909-1910) that he was employed, he published the first local history of the town.  Max was an extremely talented and popular writer and we are not certain why he left, but we suspect it may have had something to do with his unfavorable military record coming to light shortly after he served as grand marshal of the Memorial Day parade in 1910.  For a time between 1909 and about 1912, the son of Henry Hartson, Harry Ernest Hartson was at various times both editor and business manager.  In 1916 William, F. Neuenfeldt purchased it and in 1922 John O'Connell became part owner and in 1934. Their office was located just west of Shield's Service station.  Later, Albert "Abby" Neuenfeldt became the editor.  Today this paper is now combined with two others owned by Dean Lesar and called the T. R. G. (Tribune, Record and Gleaner) of Loyal, Wisconsin.
