Henry Merritt was born in Illinois, May of 1849 to Ebenezer Merritt (1812–1899) and Almira Shadick (1819–1892).  He and his Irish sweetheart, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Crawford (Dec 1862) became the parents of two sons,  Melvin Merritt (Apr 1885) and Lee Merritt (Aug 1891).  Before the roaring '20's began, the family went west to Franklin, Washington where Henry took his last breath on the 10th of  April, 1943, and was buried in Pasco, Franklin, Washington.
