News: Greenwood (Old Tree Made into Wood - 1929)

Fifty-seven years ago this spring, the late Geo. Carpenter planted a rock elm tree on a piece of land on Main Street, which at the time belonged to Dave Delaney. Later Mr. Delaney erected a home there which stood without a roof for two years. The property was then sold to Dick Elliot, who finished the house and later on the place was owned by Dr. K.W. Baker, now of Owen.

A few weeks ago Dr. Baker sold the land to Geo. Speich, who will erect a garage there, having it join his present building. Last Thursday J.S. Andrews and Art Hanna cut this rock elm tree to make room for the new addition. Mr. Andrews was 9-years-old when the tree was planted and he distinctly remembers the occasion.

I'm guessing the article about the old tree (1929) must be the property where the present day American Legion and Bank of Withee (still there?) buildings are.  Mary Urban
