Joseph Smith Delano (29 Jun 1850 - 7 Feb 1923) was born in Bucksport, Hancock, Maine,
7 February 1923. 7 Oct 1870, he married Mathilda "Tillie" Elizabeth Mero in Manitowoc, WI.  She was born 24 May 1852 in Watertown, Jefferson, WI, the daughter of John & Margaret Perrin (both born 1821 in the Netherlands). Mathilda died 15 Feb 1922 in OR City, Clackamas, OR.  Joseph passed away just shy of a year later.  He was the son of Abraham (1818-1893) and Sarah Jane Roundy (1818–1893) who had married 26 Nov 1840 in Civil, Bangor, Penobscot, Maine.  Joseph and Tillie moved to Oregon in 1902.

Obit: Crouch, Carrie D. Delano (1887 - 1907)

TONOPAH-Mrs. Carrie D. Crouch, 81, died Wednesday in the Nye County General Hospital. She was a widely known resident of Austin.

She was born May 4, 1887 in Manatowak, Wis. She was married to Earl B. Crouch on Sept. 18, 1907. He was a mining engineer at the Kingston Canyon Mine in Lander County.

In Austin, Mrs. Crouch was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Toivabe Game Club.

Survivors include three daughters; Mrs. Bettie J. Nurmi of Tonopah, Mrs. Carol Gallager of West Sacramento and Mrs. Florence Driskell of Burlingame, Calif.

A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Austin Cemetery. Friends in the Tonopah area May call at the Logan-Carlson Mortuary until 4 p.m. Saturday.

Rites Monday For De Lano
Apartment House Operator Passes

The funeral of Archibald J. De Lano, veteran Portland apartment house operator who died Friday night at Emanuel hospital after a week's illness with uremic poisoning, will be held at 2:30 P.M. Monday at the chapel of J.P. Finley & Son, relatives announced Saturday. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.

Mr. De Lano, who would have been 69 on October 30, was born in Calumet county, Wisconsin, and went to Chehalis, Wash., in 1898, where he was employed by the Doernbecher Furniture company. He came to Portland in 1900, when the same firm established its factory here, and remained with that company until 1912.

Two Structures Erected


In 1913 he and his brother, Franklin J. De Lano, built the Montgomery apartments at S.W. Third avenue and Montgomery street, and in 1929 he built the De Lano apartments at 1509 N.E. 10th avenue, which he continued to operate until his death.

Mr. De Lano married Miss Hilah R. Raymond of Forest Grove in 1902, and she survives him. He also leaves two sons, Raymond and Frank J. De Lano, and two daughters, Mrs. John C. Bartels and Mrs. Edwin Capen, all of Portland, and Mrs. Carrie Crouch, Stockton, Cal.

He was a member of East Gate lodge No. 155, A.F.& A.M; Oregon consistory No. 1, Valley of Portland, and Al Kader temple of the Shrine lodge, Portland.

 

Archibald Delano was the son of Joseph Smith & Mathilda Mero Delano who resided in Clark County, WI for a number of years while farming and raising their children, including Archibald.
