picOn Saturday, May 8, local WWII veterans, Michael Gwiazda and Anton Jacks took part in Northeast Wisconsin Old Glory Honor Flight, which transported local World War II veterans to Washington D. C. for a tour of war memorials and returns them home that evening.

At 5:30 a.m., Gwiazda and Jacks took the Freedom Flight from Appleton, Wisconsin to Washington D.C. where they visited several sites around the nation’s capital, including those memorials dedicated in their honor like the World War II Memorial, the Iwo Jima Memorial, as well as Arlington National Cemetery.

Each flight that is a part of the Old Glory Honor flight offers one guardian for every two veterans to take care of their needs throughout the day.

“We are devoted to transporting northeast Wisconsin World War II veterans to Washington, D. C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices,” said a representative from the Old Glory Honor Flight program.  “There is no way we can ever thank them enough for what they did for us and for our country.  We bring these heroes free of charge on this Tour of Honor.”
