Meet Thorp's New LibrarianThe Thorp Courier (Thorp, WI) |
Hey Thorp, there’s a new lady in town. She is fun, interesting and smart too; she is also your new librarian. Her name is Mary Hebda from Rib Lake, that is a 55-mile commute folks, and yes, she loves her job that much. Mary has been married to her husband Richard for 32-years and is the mother of three children. One of Mrs. Hebda’s children is in high school while the other two are pursuing careers in chemistry and medicine. “I am very impressed with the generosity of the library supporters and the wide use of the library in the Thorp community.” Mrs. Hebda stated, “I hope to make the library the place to go in the community with patron friendly policies, easy access and exciting events.” Mary has been a librarian for 22 years and has been Grade 3 certified since 1986. Some of her accomplishments have included a co-directorship, (one of the three in the state at the time), promoting, raising funds, planning, remodeling and moving a library to its new location and simultaneously implementing a VCAT system. Having held a variety of positions from school head cook to school
district administrative assistant, Mary is no stranger to diversity. The library is doing some new and exciting things. On Saturday, January 20, at 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. the library will be hosting a chess tournament. Call the library if you are interested and be sure to bring your own chessboard. On February 2, the library will be celebrating Too-Too many days left of winter with tropical treats. Also remember that the library is accessible on-line for renewals, requests, and research at http://vcat/wvls.lib.wi.us/. Library hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 12:00-8:30, Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00-5:30, and Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00-2:00. Mary Hebda loves her job; her first word was “book”, after mommy and daddy of course. When you don’t find her curled up with a good work of non-fiction, you may catch her knitting, sewing or even snowshoeing, now that we have some snow. Mary tells me that her faith is something she holds dear to her heart. She looks forward to meeting more community members as she has met so many warm, friendly people. So stop in for a visit and Mary will help you find what you are looking for.
