Students to attend Highground Diversity Day

Third – through 12^th grade students from many area schools will travel to The Highground to participate in Diversity Day held Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The mission and objective of Diversity Day is to celebrate similarities and differences, recognize misinformation, claim pride in group identity, understand through stories the personal impact of discrimination and learn hands-on tools for dealing effectively with discriminating comments and behavior.

Students will discover independent living for people with disabilities, explore new cultural traditions and learn about respect, duty, honor and country during a tour of The Highground.

Neillsville students were among the over 400 public, parochial and home-school students who attended the 2008 Diversity Day and participated in 12 different classes.

Many students are expected to attend this year’s Diversity Day.  Those already planning to attend include Auburndale Elementary School fifth grade, Emmanuel Lutheran School in Wisconsin Rapids and Phillips Middle School students, said Highground planning assistant Joyce Witt, who added other schools may soon notify The Highground about attending the event.
