Highground holds Porch Greeters luncheon

A total of 69 returning porch greeters and newcomers came together at The Highground Learning Center for a luncheon Tuesday, March 15, 2011.

After lunch, volunteer coordinator Joyce Witt showed a PowerPoint presentation about Highground tributes and discussed what porch greeters do.

In keeping with a 2003 promise, The Highground remembered the Wisconsin men and women killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Greeters signed up for days they wished to greet visitors at The Highground. Those who have four or five hours each month to enjoy meeting wonderful people from all over the country still have time to become a Highground greeter.

The Highground always welcomes newcomers and invites anyone interested in becoming a porch greeter to call 715-743-4224.

“The Highground is not about what you see; it’s about what you don’t see – the hundreds of volunteers working to make this a welcome home for all veterans and visitors. There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer.  Our mission is healing and education.  The Highground is a place for all of us.”
