Legacy stone placements held at Highground

July 17 provided a sunny, warm day for 25 families to participate in the Legacy Stone Ceremony at The Highground.

The trees on the plaza provided shade for many to enjoy the talking circle and many surprises the day offered. Amazing Grace was played on bagpipes, stories were shared and memories made this historical day.

One memorable story involves two Vietnam veterans who found each other after 43 years. While visiting The Highground this past spring, Jerry Church came across a stone displaying his buddy?s name ? Wayne Westenberger.

With a little looking, the two were reunited after 43 years; a strong friendship between the couples is being formed again.  Marcia Church surprised her husband, Jerry, with a stone that was dedicated July 17.

Deb Morningstar-Westenberger, Wayne?s wife and Oneida Nation Native American, performed a ?Wiping of Tears? ceremony within the Talking Circle for the two veterans. This is a moving ceremony to strengthen and encourage them to move forward and was offered to all veterans attending the Legacy Stone Ceremony. 

The Highground brought two Warriors together again ? a beautiful thing. Wayne and Deb Westenberger re-dedicated Wayne?s stone and placed in next to Jerry Church?s stone.
