Kind announces grant for

The Highground Vietnam Memorial

Representative Ron Kind (D-WI) announced a $15,000 grant from U. S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development was awarded to the Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Memorial Project, Inc., also known as The Highground, in Neillsville.  The money will help purchase a ?Fountain of Tears? statue.

?The Highground is a special place and a great tribute to our nation?s veterans,? Kind said.  ?This statue will only add to the already beautiful grounds and create a new, peaceful place for people to reflect on all the sacrifices our soldiers make, even after they return home.  I look forward to seeing all that this grant will provide for The Highground.?

The ?Fountain of Tears? statue at The Highground is the last installment of a project started at the site to help veterans and their families deal with post-traumatic stress disorder.  The project, which started three years ago, includes prayer stones, a meditation shelter and a meditation arbor circle.  The ?Fountain of Tears? will feature the statue, a bridge, stream and pond.  Two hundred thousand people visit The Highground each year.
