Granton Library Receives Grant

Granton’s Samson Memorial Library received a generous two-for-one matching funds grant from the Libri Foundation.  This “Books for Children” grant is focused on small, rural libraries and offers quality children’s literature from a 700-plus-title booklist.

Hal Berenson and Laura Ackerman enriched this year’s grant. They donated funds allowing each grant recipient to receive an additional $350 of math and science children’s books.

As a result, the library received 78 new children’s and young adult books already on the shelves and ready to be checked out. The total retail value of the books is over $1,400.

The Libri Foundation is a nationwide non-profit organization, which donates new, quality and hardcover books throughout the United States.  Over the past 18 years, the foundation has placed nearly $4 million of new children’s books on the shelves of over 2,800 libraries in 49 states.

This is the fourth grant the Samson Memorial Library received.  The library also received the grant in 2000, 2003 and 2007. Samson Memorial Library director Becky Short is ecstatic to receive these books children and young adults who visit the library will enjoy.

Library hours are Monday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The library holds a pre-school story time each Wednesday at 10 a.m.
