The Future Farmers of America is the national organization of farm boys studying vocational agriculture in the public schools throughout the United States.

 

The purposes of this organization are:

 

  1. To develop competent, aggressive, rural and agriculture leadership.

  2. To strengthen the confidence of the farm boy in himself and his work.

  3. To create and nurture a love of country life.

  4. To create more interest in the intelligent choice of farming occupations.

  5. To improve the rural home and its surroundings.

  6. To encourage co-operative effort among students of vocational education in agriculture.

  7. To promote thrift among students of vocational agriculture through establishment of savings accounts and investments in agriculture     enterprise.

  8. To promote and improve scholarship.

  9. To encourage organization of recreational activities among students of vocational education in agriculture.

  10. To supplant the regular systematic instruction offered to students of vocational education in agriculture.

  11. To have the organization develop pride in the program of vocational agriculture through encouragement of superior results being achieved in supervised farming, and all activities relating to the vocational program and the work of the F. F. A. organization.

On Feb. 11, 1938 a reorganization meeting of the Greenwood Chapter of Future Farmers was held.  The officers of the year are as follows: Adviser, Mr. Heinze; President, David McKenna; Vice-President, Cletus Susa, Secretary, Edward Bayuk; Treasurer, Melvin Alperstett; Reporter, Clayton Braun; and Watch Dog, Robert Scheruring.

 

The organization has gone into action with activities for the year.  It has set as its goal to pay for a camping trailer.  It is to be used for all trips taken by the chapter.  Some activities for the year were as follows:

  1. To sell candy at noon and at basketball games.

  2. To have a basketball team.

  3. To hold a party for the school on April 22.

  4. To have a Rural School Day.

  5. To have a Chapter Glee Club; to take part in state contest.

  6. A chapter baseball team.

  7. To take a fishing trip.

  8. To hold a summer picnic.

  9. Selling subscriptions to a magazine "Farm Ideas."

  10. Send delegates to State Fair.

  11. Have a display at County Fair, and if possible a stand.

By the end of the summer the Chapter will have completed a most successful year in Future Farmer work.
