Fern Vandeberg
September 9, 1889 - December 30, 1974
Fern
(nee Alton) Vandeberg was the daughter of John and Viola (nee Parker) Alton, who
came to York Township in July of 1902.[i]
She was a sister to Ida Root, whose husband, Elwin Root, was a son to
George and Emma (nee Gibson) Root, who were early pioneers of York Township and
are also buried in York Center Cemetery. She
was also a sister to Viola Alton; the wife of Earl Lawrence (one of
Horace and
Edna Lawrence's sons) who is buried in York Center Cemetery.
Fern married Horace Vandeberg, a son of
John and Lillian (nee Lawrence)
Vandeberg. John Vandeberg was an
early settler of York Township. Lillian
was also a daughter of Horace A. Lawrence, an early York Township pioneer and Civil
War veteran, and his first wife, the former Lorinda Windsor (a daughter of Anson
Windsor, another York pioneer). Horace
Lawrence was a son of Jesse and Almeda (nee Benedict)
Lawrence, who also came to
York Township in the 1870s.
