Kosik, Cora Mae (12 September 1944 – 19 March 2023)

Cora May Kosik, age 78, passed away on March 19, 2023, surrounded by family.

Born on September 12, 1944, in Harrison County, Indiana. Cora was the daughter of Orville and Frona (Boston) Hendrich. She grew up on the family farm in Palmyra, IN. Growing up she enjoyed cats and horses and played drums in the school band. She graduated from Pekin High School in 1962 and earned a diploma in Administrative Accounting from Spencerian College in Louisville, KY.

Cora met Edward Kosik in 1963 and they were united in marriage at St. Michael’s church in Bradford, IN on June 5, 1965. They settled in Thorp, where they operated a dairy farm until 2007, raised 5 children, and became dedicated servants of their community.

Cora was a caretaker, always willing to help family, friends, or strangers. She frequently volunteered and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Bernard - St. Hedwig parish PCCW, serving as Treasurer, Vice-President, and President over the years. She supported the local bloodmobile program for decades. She was a 4-H mom and frequented activities at Thorp Catholic School and Thorp High School.

Cora was widely known for her outstanding cooking abilities. Anyone lucky enough to be invited to her home was greeted with a delectable spread of scratch made food, much of which could be traced back to her garden. Every year she spent the summers making preserves, and pickling, canning and freezing seasonal fruits and vegetables which, the family enjoyed year-round. Cora also cooked special event meals at the church Quonset Hall and often helped with Legion Auxiliary meals and events. She loved traveling to see friends, dancing polkas, playing cards, doing embroidery, and entertaining family and friends.

Cora is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ed; her children Michael (Teresa) of Boise, ID, David (Laurie) of Wasilla, AK, Julia (Michael) Cooper of Peculiar, MO, Roger (Angie) of Reidsville, NC, and Ellen (Carlo) Kosik Williams of Painted Post, NY; 4 grandchildren who were the light of her life: Randy Kosik, Leah Cooper, and Liam and Jackson Kosik Williams; brother Bill (Judy) Hendrich; sisters-in-law Arlene Kosik and Barbara Kosik; and many close friends and family, far too numerous to name.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Frona Hendrich; brother Robert Hendrich; brothers- and sisters-in law Louise Hendrich, Sophie and Frank Jaworek, Joseph Kosik, Chester and Sandra Kosik, and dear friend Beverly Neisius.

Services will be held on March 24, 2023, at St. Bernard – St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 111 N. Church Street, in Thorp. A visitation will be held starting at 9:00 a.m. followed by the mass at 11:00 a.m.
