GREENWOOD - After suffering through two consecutive winless seasons, Greenwood boys basketball coach Kelly Noble thinks his team is somewhat improved this year.

The three starters that Noble has back are senior center Dean Hinker (a two-year letter winner), senior guard Dean Bogdonovich and junior forward Jay Graski.

"Hinker is the best rebounder for his size in the Eastern Cloverbelt, he's tough inside," Noble said. "Bogdonovich is a good ball-handler but has to improve his shot."

"Graski could be a tough player inside, but he needs to be consistent," he added.

Other letter winners on the team are seniors Steve Lindner, guard: Randy Rogstad, forward; and Scott Hinker, sophomore forward.

Scott Hinker started a few games last year as a freshman and Noble calls him as excellent prospect.

"Rogstad has fair size and potential if he works hard," Noble said. "Lindner has a good outside shot, but he must improve his team defensive skills."

Non-lettermen on the team, all juniors are guard Tim Scherer, forward Kurt Huegel, guard Jeff Block, forward Tony Peroshek, center Matt Lindner and guard Chad Zimmerman.

GREENWOOD - Greenwood girl's basketball coach Dave Duram is looking for a couple of more scorers.

Heading the list of eight letter winners is senior forward Kaila Lucas, who was an all-Eastern Cloverbelt Conference performer last season.

"Lucas is a good shooter and rebounder and has the potential to be one of the conferences dominating players," Duram said.

Other returning letter winners include seniors Gwen Arch, guard; Tammy Braun, forward; Michelle Lindner, guard; Sue Reuter, guard; Jill Mayenschein, guard; and Janene Oldham, guard.

Duram had this to say about some of his top player:

Mayenschein started at point guard as a sophomore last year. Good Ball-handler. Need to improve her shooting touch.

Lindner is quick on quick. Very good defensively. has to score more points if we are to be a contender.

Braun is a strong rebounder and good defensive player. Needs to develop her quickness and shooting.

Srch shows a lot of Hustle, Excellent on defense, but needs to improve her offensive skills,

Oldham could be one of the surprise players in the conference as far as scoring. Has a great shot.

Non-letter winners on the team are guard Dawn Garlach, forward Heidi Lenz and forward Ellen Richmond. All are juniors.
