Moberg, Mr. and Mrs. Elery “Swede” (Golden – 26 September1982)

Some 90 friends and relatives gathered Saturday, September 25, at the James Becker farm on the 26 Road to greet Ruth and Swede Moberg on their 50th wedding anniversary. The Moberg’s were married on September 26, 1932, in Neillsville.

The former Ruth Redmond was born in Oregon but came to the Christie area as a young girl. She graduated from Neillsville High School in 1929 and then worked in Milwaukee.

Elery Moberg, better known as “Swede,” is a native of Greenwood where he has lived most of his life. In 1921, he graduated from the Greenwood High School. For many years he was umpire for the baseball games. After their marriage they farmed in Clark County. Through the years they have traveled. He likes to watch baseball on TV and does some gardening.

Mrs. Moberg worked for the Wuethrich Creamery for ten years. She has belong to several homemaker groups. At the present she is the president of the United Methodist Women and is a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Her spare time is spend in reading, crocheting and knitting.

The Moberg’s have four daughters. They are Mrs. Charles (Marjorie) Klapatauskas, Withee; Mrs. James (Sharon) Horswill, Neillsville; and twins, Mrs. James (Lois) Becker of Loyal and Mrs. Arnold (Avis) Becker of Greenwood. There are 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
