A three alarm fire Tuesday night of last week severely damaged the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lueth of Route 1, Dorchester. Fire departments from Curtiss, Dorchester and Abbotsford fought the fire for three house.

According to Fire Chief Bill Colby of the Abbotsford Fire Department, the fire started in a fireplace chimney. He said the roof and upstairs room received severe fire damage and the downstairs living room received extensive smoke and water damage.

The fire was discovered about 6:45 p.m. by Lueth. He and his daughter, Lori Ann, were at home watching television. When Lueth went to change a channel he thought he heard crackling noises coming from somewhere, and discovered the sound coming from inside the upstairs walls. He immediately called the Curtiss Fire Department.

Mrs. Lueth had left the house a short while before that to take her son, Greg, into town to the Wrestling matches at Abbotsford High School.

Mrs. Lueth was summoned home, and upon arriving she said the first thing she saw were friends and relatives carrying contents of the house outside. The downstairs furniture was saved, but Mrs. Lueth said all of 6 year old Lori’s clothes and toys, along with personal belongings of a son in service, and other mementos one saves over the years, were destroyed in the fire.

The family is presently living in three of the downstairs rooms, but is sleeping at a neighbor’s home, because of the smoke odor.

No estimate on the amount of damage is known at this time, but the home and furnishing are partially covered by insurance, Mrs. Lueth said.
