Kapfer, Leo W. (16 November 1911 – 19 September 1982)

Leo W. Kapfer, 70, the chairman for the Town of Hewett, passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, on Sunday morning, September 19.

Kapfer was born on November 16, 1911, in the Town of Pine Valley to Christian and Nellie (Wagner) Kapfer. After his education, he farmed in the Towns of Pine Valley and Hewett. On November 23, 1929, he married Elsie Shultz in West Bend ceremonies.

Kapfer worked for Neillsville Milk Products for several years and then was a milk hauler for many years. He also worked for Svetlik Ford for several years. After his retirement, he worked for the Oldham Pallet Company. Mr. Kapfer, Rt. 3 Neillsville, was chairman of the Town of Hewett for twelve years, a position he held at the time of his death.

Surviving him, besides his wife, are four sons, Wilbert and Richard, both of Rockford, Ill., Bob of Black River Falls and Michael of Stoughton; a sister, Mrs. Edward (Mildred) Timmler, Marshfield; a brother, Albert, West Bend; eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd; a brother, Elmer; and a sister, Vera.

Funeral services were to be held this afternoon (Thursday, September 23) from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. The Rev. Howard Ott of the United Methodist Church was to officiate at the 1:30 service with burial to be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. (The body was to lie in state on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and again on Thursday morning until time of services at the funeral home.)
