Ruth Gabriel, a senior at Colby High School and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alois Gabriel, Colby, is this year’s winner of the local Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen contest.

Candidates for the award are selected from the senior class and representatives from the high school faculty do the judging. The students are judged on the basis of dependability, leadership, patriotism, and service to home, church and community.

Winners of the local contests are eligible to enter the state DAR Good Citizen contest, where a $100 bond is awarded to the winter. The second and third places receive $25 and $15 respectively. The national contest is the final step with a $1.000 scholarship award given to the winner. This scholarship came be used at the college of her choice.

Miss Gabriel has participated in many extra-curricular activities in high school. These activities include being president of the National Honor Society, secretary of the student council, president of the band club, and was a Badger Girl representative.

She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
