Greenwood High Alumni (42nd Reunion – 29 May 1982)
The 42nd annual Greenwood High School Alumni Reunion Banquet was held May 29 in
the east gym with 230 attending. Edna Hembre Meyers, class of 1923, gave the
invocation and the benediction.
The master of ceremonies for the event was Karl B. Wallin, a 1982 graduate.
Musical entertainment was provided by the Braun 4-H Club of Greenwood, who
presented the selection “Friendship” that they will perform at the state fair.
Hembre Honored
The outstanding Alumni award for 1982 was presented to Julius O. Hembre, class
of 1912, who will celebrate his 90th birthday this summer. Throughout his life,
he has been an active member in the affairs of the community. He helped to found
the Montevidio Chapter of “War Dads,” which was designed to give help and
support to daughters and sons in the service. He was one of the founders of the
Montevidio Pioneer Village and has been for many years a member of the Chippewa
County Historical Society of Minnesota. In 1969, he was awarded an outstanding
senior award at which time he was president of the Chippewa County Historical
Society, secretary of the Kiwanis Club and secretary of the County Republican
Committee. In 1954, he was the state vice-chairman of the Minnesota Heart Fund.
Before his retirement, he was a life insurance agent and was president of the
Minnesota Valley Life Underwriters. He has recently completed writing the story
of his life, “A Good Time to Live – My First 90 Years.”
The award to Hembre was presented by John D. Wuethrich.

painting. (The painting is of an American Indian, the native Americans from whom
the Greenwood Indians derive their name.)
Sigrud Stark, English instructor at Greenwood High School from 1928 to 1932,
presented the district with a fit of money for the purpose of encasing the oil
painting in a glass display in the lobby of the west gym.
