Vine, David Allen (13 April 1951 -1 November 2022)

David Vine, 71, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Edgewood Prairie Crossing in Sioux Falls, SD.

David Allen Vine, son of Theamore and Leone (Gerhardt) Vine was born April 13, 1951, in Marshfield, WI. He graduated from Neillsville High School with the class of 1969. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Debra Urban on June 3, 1972. Through the years they made stops in Eau Claire, WI., Wisconsin Rapids, WI., Aberdeen, SD and finally Sioux Falls, SD. David’s career was vast and varied: He worked briefly for a bed manufacturer before getting a start in the energy business, first as a fuel truck driver. He worked his way up over the years, managing a farm supply cooperative in Wood County, Wisconsin during the 1980s and eventually becoming the Sioux Falls office in an energy partnership until his retirement. Along the way, David was also an entrepreneur at times, selling air filtration systems and even owning a fleet of vending machines.

David and Debra were faithful members of Rustic Hills Community Church, where he served as a small group leader and business manager. David was a great public speaker and storyteller. If you heard a burst of laughter at any gathering, he was often in the middle of the group using grand hand gestures and expressive features to complete the effect. He loved singing in church, traveling with Debbie, reading, going for walks, and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers. He was also a proud Grandpa and hosted many sleepovers and play dates for the grandkids with Debbie. In retirement, he volunteered listening to students read at a local elementary school.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Daniel Vine of Washington D.C. and Derek (Kelly) Vine of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Penelope, Oliver, and Owen; siblings, Earl (Judy) Vine of Granton, WI, Jean Penrod of Kansas, IL, and Richard “Dick” (Deborah) Vine of Granton, WI; mother-in-law, Ione Urban of Germantown, WI; and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theamore and Leone; wife, Debra in March of 2022; father-in-law, John Urban; and brother-in-law, Gordon Penrod.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2022, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present will be from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 6, 2022, also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Rustic Hills Community Church to be directed towards the building fund.
