Nora Anglemyer has done at a young age what many of us have never done, she has
read 1,000 books and all before she reaches kindergarten. The 1,000 Books Before
Kindergarten program is designed to promote reading to newborns, infants, and
toddlers as well as to encourage parent and child bonding through reading.
Libraries all across the country participate in this program to introduce
children to reading at a young age before formal education begins One of the
goals of the program is to provide a simple, innovative yet fun approach to
establishing strong early literacy skills and to help young children gain the
confidence necessary to become strong readers.
As children read books, they are rewarded with prizes that begin with stickers
and increase to books and other items. When a child finishes 1,000 books they
are given a book tote bag, a certificate, and their photo in the Thorp Courier
to share with the community this wonderful accomplishment.
Congratulations Nora on reading 1,000 books before kindergarten!
