More than 100 descendants of Emil and Rose Martens gathered at Roth Brothers Farm in rural Unity on Saturday, July 23. This was the largest reunion since the family first organized the annual event in 1947.

Family members wore color-coordinated shirts that represented the Roth, Kuester and Duwe branches of the Martens family tree. The reunion photo was taken on the barn hill.

The day included a huge picnic style lunch served on the farm lawn and later a supper complete with homemade cream puffs and traditional watermelon slices. Numerous games and activities filled the day and included a Go Fish game and farm animal petting area for kids, farm trivia game and baby picture contest, scavenger hunt, hayrides, and tractor and horse rides.

A time capsule filled with family memorabilia was buried and will be opened at the 100th reunion anniversary in 2047. A Martens Family recipe book and a photo album was printed for the event.

The evening activities included a barnyard dance and spectacular fireworks display over the Roth Bros. farm property.
