Clarence Zier, Dorchester, ended his teaching career of 36 years last Friday, May 31, 1974. He had taught business education and served as year book advisor at Prentice High School since 1965. From 1951 to 1961 he served in the same position at Dorchester High School.

Zier was born at Watertown, and received his elementary and secondary education there. In 1933 he was awarded a Bachelor of Education degree in Business Education at Whitewater State Teacher’s College, now the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. He also attended summer sessions at the University of Colorado, Greeley, and the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.

During his career, Zier taught in Rewey, Weyerhauser, and Siren, Wisconsin, and Ericson, Sunol and Merrill, Nebraska. His duties during these years included those of principal, superintendent, basketball coach, school paper advisor and year book advisor.

In 1937 he and Wilma Sabaska of Weyerhauser were married. For the past 23 years they have resided in Dorchester, where both are active members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Zier has also served on the school board, and is presently treasurer of the church.

The couple has five children, Debbie, Loyal; Dan, at home; Mrs. Albert (Becky) Johnson, Tucson, Arizona; Same, Fredonia, and Mrs. Neil (Janis) McCarron, Colby.

A dinner party for the retiring members of the Prentice faculty was held at the Club Florena in Medford in May.
