The city of Neillsville has new royalty representing it. Kayleigh Kubisiak was crowned the 2022 Miss Neillsville in a ceremony Thursday evening at the high school auditorium. Kubisiak’s court members are First Princess Emma Moen, Second Princess Callee Mohr and Third Princess Abby Mathis. All will be seniors in high school this coming school year.

After emcee Larry Hoeser drew Kubisiak’s name from the envelope and read it aloud, Kubisiak was filled with joy and surprise.

Kayleigh Kubisiak is all smiles after being named Miss Neillsville 2022
and receiving her bouquet from outgoing Miss Neillsville Kara Oldham.

“I honestly wasn’t expecting this. I could probably cry,” Kubisiak said in the moment.

She said she looked forward to experiencing something new and meeting new people in this role.

Miss Neillsville and her court were chosen based on several factors, including personal interviews, a group interview, speeches on “Who is a woman who inspired you?” evening wear, pop questions and overall stage presence. Brianne Kopacz of Osseo, Tammy Anderson of Osseo and Christina Stewart of Black River Falls served as judges. All three have judged multiple pageants before. Stewart serves as the Miss Black River Falls program coordinator. Anderson is the Miss Osseo program co-coordinator. Kopacz was Miss Osseo 2005.

Miss Congeniality was also selected that evening. Mohr was chosen by her peers to receive that award.

Also competing for Miss Neillsville were Marie Jorgensen and Ella King.

The ceremony also included the selection of Little Miss Neillsville. Contestants were Isabella Boon, Emersyn Brunette, Everly Brunette, Molly Janicki, Anita Mathis, Emberlyn Parker, Quinn Reis, Jaelyn Riggins, Jewel Riggins, Brooke Spencer, Emma Spencer, Ryann Walter, Lylah Wilson and Tyra Lynn Wuethrich. All of their names were put in a container and the outgoing Miss Neillsville and Little Miss Neillsville court members drew names for who would be the new Little Miss Neillsville.

Parker, a third-grader, was chosen for Little Miss Neillsville. Her First Princess is second-grader Brooke Spencer, and her Second Princess is Wuethrich, a fourth-grader.

The outgoing Miss Neillsville court had a chance to speak about their experiences and express appreciation to all those who helped them in the past year.

“I will miss the girls because we are all very close,” said 2021 Miss Neillsville Kara Oldham.

She extended appreciation to Gross Motors for providing a truck to pull the float for all the parades and to her fellow court members.

“I know we did a good job representing Neillsville together. And I thank the littles for making us laugh,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to program coordinators Michelle Friemoth and Shelly Schmitz, and to this year’s candidates.

“To the candidates, you are all true queens,” she said.

She also expressed appreciation to those who helped take down the float after parades, her sponsor Family Roots Salon and everyone who came to the coronation ceremony.

“It’s been an honor serving,” she said.

2021 Miss Neillsville First Princess Kattie Roidt also spoke.

“I feel grateful to have had such a great opportunity. I had so much fun over the past year. I gained new abilities—becoming more social was one of my biggest accomplishments,” she said.

She advised the new court members to “take in every moment because it goes by fast.”

Outgoing Second Princess Malana Gurney also had positive things to say. She extended gratitude specifically to Friemoth and her grandfather Steve Knoop for sponsoring her through his business.

“The memories will stick with us forever. To the new court, get ready because the year goes by very fast. You will develop positive bonds with the youth in the community. Wear your crowns high and your sashes straight, because you’re about to embark on an amazing adventure,” said Gurney.

2021 Third Princess Kyra Rakovec offered appreciation to Oldham’s parents for pulling the float and taking photos, to her sponsor GRIT Nutrition and to Friemoth and Schmitz.

“It’s been a blast. It was a great experience… To the new court, have fun, make the best of it, go to as many events as you can, meet other courts and take pictures,” she advised.

After the 2021 Miss Neillsville court gave their farewells, Friemoth, Schmitz and Heritage Days committee member Joe Neville presented each court member with a scholarship. The court members also presented a gift to Friemoth.

There was one additional gift to be given, however.

“This year, we rejuvenated the program. It takes courage, dedication and commitment to make this program a success. One court member went above and beyond in those areas and showed it did not matter what place you had on the court. She inspired us to create a new award. So I would like to present this award to Kyra Rakovec, which includes an extra scholarship amount,” said Friemoth.

The evening also included recognition of the other area royalty in attendance, including ladies from Osseo, Black River Falls, Whitehall, Loyal and Greenwood, and the Clark County Fairest of the Fair court, Miss Wisconsin Sweetheart Olivia Roman and former Miss Neillsville court members.
