The 61 members of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing's Class of 1985
pledged their dedication to their chosen profession Saturday in a ceremony at
St. John's Catholic Church.
During the traditional capping ceremony, female members of the class received
their caps as a symbol of their calling and male members received pins. The
ceremony is conducted at the time when junior-level students have completed
their fundamental nursing courses and are beginning their hospital experience.
The Rev. Donald Wilger gave the invocation, following the processional buy Amy
Kuch. Bruce Frederick, hospital vice-president-nursing, gave a welcome and Mary
Ruth Beeber, director of the school, presented the address.
Class member Joy Switlick presented the vocal selections and Christi Hammer
explained the significance of the cap, followed by a reading given by Ann
Hoffman.
The capping followed with Nancy Ray, assistant director, and class advisers,
Louise Greenlaw and Lula Mueller conducting the ceremony.
Tom Meyers, then led his classmates in the nurses' pledge while the
candle-lighting ceremony was enacted. Wilger pronounced the benediction. The
recessional followed.

Dietich, Thorp; Janell Mellenthin, Unity.
