Seif, Karen “Carrie” (16 November 1889 – 5 September 1981)

Mrs. Karen “Carrie” Seif, 91, a former Greenwood resident, died September 5 at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

The former Karen Halverson was born November 16, 1889, in Oslo, Norway. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and attended school in Norway. In 1910, she came to the United States and lived in North Dakota. She later moved to Greenwood, where she was married to Henry Johnson.

The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 22, 1962. He died December 4, 1963. After their marriage, the Johnsons lived in the Town of Warner where they farmed until 1957. They then moved to Greenwood and Mrs. Seif lived there until 1961. She moved then to the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville, where she met and was married to John Seif, September 15, 1964. He died January 6, 1966. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a charter member of its Ladies’ Aid Society.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur L. Johnson of Belleville, Illinois, and Elmer N. Johnson of Malta, Illinois; one daughter, Mrs. Edith Stout, Loves Park, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Emma Christianson, Oslo, Norway; eight-grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, a great-granddaughter and five brothers.

Services were held at Wednesday morning, September 2, from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood. The Rev. Samuel Kochel officiated, and burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Arthur Kolstad, Jakle Barr, Wayne Stout, Allen Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and Howard Susa. The Soloist was Donna Olson, accompanied by Mrs. Don Warner.
