Brandt, Joe F. (2 Jun 1897 – 12 Mar 1978)

Joe F. Brandt, age 80, died at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 1978 at his home on Route 1, Withee, Wisconsin.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday March 15, 1978 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee, with Rev. Douglas Groenewold officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery.

The Maurina Funeral Home in Owen provided the services.

Joe Brandt, one of the pioneer residents of the little community of Frenchtown, was born June 2, 1897, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August (Gust) Carl Frederick Brandt, who settled in the area in the 1890’s. His father Gust ran the charcoal kiln in Frenchtown for some years around the turn of the century.

Mr. Brandt attended the Frenchtown school in the town of Hixon, and afterward farmed on the family farm most of his life. On April 20, 1932 he married the former Bessie Thess at his home in the town of Hixon.

In addition to his farming, which he kept up until his death, Mr. Brandt was also a carpenter and a mason, doing work in both around the area. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee.

He is survived by his wife, one brother, Fred Brandt of Withee, one sister, Mrs. Ida Niemi of Lake Worth, Florida.

He was predeceased by two sisters and one brother.
