Beyer, Helen B. (17 April 1893 – 3 June 1981)

Helen B. Beyer, 88, a resident of Neillsville Memorial Home, passed away in Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, June 3.

The deceased was born on April 17, 1893, in the Town of Weston to William and Emilie (Floerke) Thoma. She received her education in Weston schools and then worked with her father as a secretary with the was the first highway commissioner.

On May 10, 1918, she married William F. Beyer in Neillsville ceremonies. The couple farmed in the Town of Pine Valley until retiring in 1975. During this time, she helped her husband as bookkeeper while he was an assessor for the township for many years. He also assisted him as the first manage4r for the Farmers Union Cooperative.

After the death of her husband in January of 1976, she made her home with a daughter, Vivian Horehled, of Neillsville. About 18 months ago, she became a resident of the nursing home.

Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Vivian) Horehled of Neillsville, Mrs. Melvin (Alma) Mech of Thorp and Mrs. Arvid (Marian) Berger of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a brother, Carl Thoma, Neillsville; eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death, besides her husband, by three brothers, William, Paul and Benjamin.

Funeral services were held on the morning of Saturday, June 6, from Pine Valley Lutheran Church with the Rev. Maynard Stokka officiating. She was a member of the Pine Valley Lutheran Church congregation. “How Great Thou Art” and “Beautiful Isle” were offered by Elsie Sischo and Virginia Karnitz. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery with pallbearers Arthur Ackerman, Leonard Schultz, Emit Schmidt, Robert Knoop, Art Dux and Ted Linster. The Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Attending the services from out-of-town were Mr./Mrs. Arvid Berger, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Dr. Theodore Berger, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Brian Berger, Sycamore, N.Y.; Mr./Mrs. Thomas Seipel & Amanda, Sun Prairie; Dennis Mech, Plover; Trudy Fox, Stevens Point; Mr./Mrs. Robert Krause, Allen & Neil, Markesan; Mr./Mrs. Richard McFarlane, Gurnee, Il.; August Beyer, Elmer Beyer, Larry Beyer and Mrs. Irvin Thoma, all of Wis. Rapids; Robert Mech, Kenosha; Myrtle Davis, Wausau; and George Beyer, Athens.
