Staffeil, Roger W. (? – 11 May 1981)

A tractor accident claimed the life of Roger W. Staffeil, 56, rural Colby, on Monday afternoon. He was dead on arrival at a Colby Clinic having received chest and internal injuries.

The accident occurred when Staffeil was trying to pull another tractor, driven by Ronald Karsten, 39, Curtiss, which had become mired in a field near Curtiss and just off County E. As Staffeil began tugging the tractor, his machine tipped over backward, pinning him underneath.

Funeral services were to be held today (Thursday) from Zion Lutheran in Colby with burial in a Colby Cemetery. The Rux-Lulloff Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

A lifelong Colby area farmer, Staffeil, is survived by three sons, James of Medford, Jeff of Owen and Kevin of Thorp; four daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Charon) Schmidt of Random Lake, Mrs. Tony (Diane) Wojt of Thorp and Mrs. Schott (Cheryl) Krejci and Mrs. Herbert (Carol) Champman, both of Marshfield; seven grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Aurilla Bowen of Abbotsford, Mrs. Alice Karsten of Curtiss and Mrs. Leona Koffarnus and Mrs. Lori Schmidt both of Colby. Also surviving is Grace Hertz, the deceased’s divorced wife.
