James Polnaszek has been named valedictorian and Burt Schauer salutatorian at
Abbotsford High School for the 1973 senior class, according to Philip Cassata,
principal.
Both will graduate with an academic average of 94.2.
Polnaszek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Polnaszek, Abbotsford, has been active in
a number of activities, and is one of the top athletes at the school, competing
all four years in football, baseball, basketball, and for two years in track.
He has also been a member of the National Honor Society, band, drama, forensics,
student senate, where he held a number of offices, junior class president,
lettermen’s club, and newspaper staff.
Polnaszek was the Badger Boys State representative in 1972; participated in the
state forensics contest this year; received the Outstanding Teenage of America
Award in 1972; attend the Laird Youth Leadership Conference in 1971, and
attended the Badger Basketball Camp in 1971 and 1972.
He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
Burt Schauer ( a couple of lines were missing here) …. Honor came recently when
he was awarded a four year Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship.
He also participated in sports, included football, wrestling, track, baseball.
Schauer is a member of the National Honor Society, Sportsmen’s club, and was
class treasurer his sophomore year.
He competed in the state forensics contest this spring and received the
Outstanding Teenager of America Award for 1972. Schauer is also presently
serving as president of Christ Lutheran Youth League.
