Johnson, John W. (27 Feb 1890 – 12 Apr 1973)

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 14, 1973 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, for John Walter Johnson, 83, Unity, who died Thursday morning, April 12, 1973, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he was admitted the previous Friday.

The Rev. James Primley officiated, with burial in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Forest Johnson, Leon Jost, George Weiler, Joe Olson, Otto Atcherson and Ed Mews.

Mr. Johnson was born February 27, 1890 in the town of Unity. He received his education in the area school, and married Signe Johnson at Neillsville on July 2, 1921.

He served overseas in World War I, farmed his entire life in the town of Unity, and retired in 1963. He had lived in Unity since that time.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, served as chairman of the town of Unity, and also as clerk, was a member of the county board, and a charter member of the American Legion, of which he was a 50-year member.

Survivors, besides his wife, include four daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Helen) Ayers, Mrs. Leo (Vivian) Bloom, and Mrs. Corwin (Verna) Dallman, all of Unity, and Mrs. Dennis (Eileen) Dallman, Spencer, and a son, Walter Johnson, Poynette.

A total of sixteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a brother, Alfred, Unity, and a sister, Mrs. henry (Edith) Hagen, Colby, also survive.
