Metcalf, LaVern L. (5 February 1932 – 6 July 1980) With Flag

A Neillsville native, LaVern L. Metcalf, 48, of Villa Park, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, July 6, in DuPage Memorial Hospital, Elmhorst, Illinois.

Funeral services were to be held this Thursday afternoon, July 10, at 1:30 from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. The Rev. Gary Clark of the Neillsville United Church of Christ was to officiate with burial made in the city cemetery. The body was to lie in state Wednesday evening from 5:00 to (:00 and on Thursday morning until the time of services.

The deceased was born on February 5, 1932, in the Neillsville area to Leon A. and Nora T. (Walters) Metcalf. After he received his education, he worked in the area until joining the U.S. Navy. After service, he returned to Neillsville until September 14, 1957, when he married Jean Grottke. The couple then moved to Illinois, where he resided until his death. He was a member of the Villa Park VFW.

Surviving him, besides his wife, are two sons, Louie and Larry, both of Villa Park, two daughters, Lorrie and Mrs. David (Lisa) Peale, both of Villa Park; two sisters, Mrs. Vincent (Elaine) Senott of Colgate and Mrs. James (Myrtle) Kerman of Sparta; one brother, Irving, Janesville; and two grandchildren.
