The Neillsville United Church of Christ was the site of the Saturday mid-afternoon, June 28, wedding of Dianna Marie Smith and Gene Allen Marty. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marty, all of Rt. 1 Neillsville.

With her father presenting her to the altar, the Rev. Gary Clark officiated at the exchange of vows. Special music selections were offered by Kay Swenson and Cindy Strangfeld.

Patricia Fitzmaurice, a sister of the bride from Neillsville, was chosen as matron of honor. She was joined in the party by Pam Dimmitt, a sister of the bride from Merrillan; Sharilyn Ziegler, a sister of the groom from Willard; and Carolyn Langreck, a friend of the bride from Neillsville.

Serving as bestman was Ramon Kohnert, a friend of the groom from Pigeon Falls. He was joined by Lee Kuechenmeister, a friend of the groom from Neillsville, Tom Marty. The groom’s brother from Wausau and Larry Anason, a friend of the groom from Neillsville. Ushering were Neillsvillites Jeff Fitzmaurice, the bride’s brother-in-law, and Randy Roehl, a friend of the groom.

The bride chose a gown of ivory Selesta Chiffenete which was trimmed with Venician and shirred lace and featuring a high neckline, long sleeves and a sunburst-pleated skirt which swept to a chapel train. She also wore a matching lace-edged, chapel length veil and carried a bouquet of ivory roses and peach carnations with trail. The bridesmaids wore apricot, knit gowns with lace-edged capes over sunburst pleated skirts and carried bouquets of ivory roses, peach carnations and baby’s breath.

The groom chose an ivory-colored tuxedo while the groomsmen were attired in tuxedos of ivory and brown.

Following the service, a reception was held in the church basement. This was followed by another reception at the Robert Marty home and a dance at the Silver Dome. The couple left on a wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin.

The bride is a 1980 graduate of Neillsville High School and is employed by the Neillsville A&W. The groom is a 1979 graduate of the same school and in 1980 from District I Technical Institute-Eau Claire. He is employed by Russell’s Hardware of Neillsville. The new Mr. and Mrs. Marty will make their home on Rt. 1 Neillsville.
