Schmitt, Constance (9 Jan 1890 – 20 Aug 1974)

Mrs. Constance Schmitt, 84, died at Tijuana, Mexico, August 20, 1974. Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Thorp on Monday, August 26 at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. John Puerner and Rev. Francis Brockman officiating. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: David Conrad, Gary Schmitt, Jerome Neiman, Danny Schmitt, Richard Golen, and Steven Dietsche.

Constance Woeber, housewife and baker, was born January 9, 1890 at Davenport, Iowa. On October 6, 1911 she was united in marriage at Moline Illinois to Raymond Schmitt, who preceded her in death. Constance Schmitt came to Thorp with her husband Raymond and family back in 1924. She was the only remaining business partner that was here at that time. She spent and labored for 50 years serving the Thorp Community. She was a wonderful mother and person to know. Loved by so many, always went out of her way to do good. Mother was very fervent, trudge to church in the bitter cold and then to work. We children loved our mother dearly and will miss her very much. She belonged to the Christian Mother’s Society of St. Bernard’s all the years that I can remember. We miss you mom.

Surviving are four sons, James of Wabasha, Minn., Virgil of Cadott, Bernard of Milwaukee, and Ray Reese at home; four daughters, (Mercedes) Mrs. Alex Neiman of Wausau, Mrs. Lucille Dietsche of Wausau, (Rita) Mrs. Ed Golen of Milwaukee; (Theresa) Mrs. Gordon Conrad of Wausau; 27 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Reese Woeber of Rock Island, Illinois; and one sister, Mrs. Marie Ullmeyer of Rock Island, Illinois.
