Gwiazda, Mr./Mrs. Walter (Silver – 2 Aug 1974)

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gwiazda celebrated their silver wedding anniversary, Saturday, August 10, 1974 with a 6 p.m. supper, followed by a dance at St. Hedwig’s Quonset Hut, with music by the “Diamondaires”. Highlighting the evening was a mock wedding, in which many relatives and friends participated.

The bride and of twenty five years ago greeted guests wearing a double knit white and silver gown with a pink orchid corsage. A white carnation boutonniere was worn by Mr. Gwiazda. The bridesmaid wore a red gown with an orchid corsage, and the best man is deceased.

Mrs. Cheryle Malecki and Mrs. Irene Przybylski, daughters of the couple, pinned on the silver leaves and had charge of the guest book.

The former Waneta Meeker and Walter Gwiazda were married August 2, 1949 at Medford, Wisconsin. Their attendants were Estelle Starr and Roy Berg, sister and friend of the groom.

The couple has spent their entire married life on the farm where Mr. Gwiazda was born and raised.

They have four children, Mrs. James (Cheryle) Malecki, Mrs. Bernard (Irene) Przybylski, Sp_4 Gregory Gwiazda, now stationed in Idar Oberstien, Germany, and Duane at home; two grandchildren, Corey Malecki and Jessica Przybylski. Gregory flew home for this special occasion.

Served at the reception were 245 guests from Winnipeg and Meenedosa, Canada, Chicago, Ill., St. Paul, Minn., Gilman, Owen, Withee, Loyal, Colby, Rhinelander, Wausau, Tomahawk, Chippewa Falls, East Troy, Lublin, Stanley and Thorp, Wisconsin.

The couple live on their farm north of Thorp, but quit farming when their barn was destroyed by fire in 1965. Mr. Gwiazda sold insurance up until 1968, when he became very ill with a kidney disease, living on a kidney machine for nearly four and a half years, when in December 1972 he had a kidney transplant. The kidney was given to him by his daughter Irene. And that is why indeed this is a special occasion.
