Volovsek, Mary Ellen (13 May 1947 – 10 December 2021)

Mary Ellen Volovsek, age 74, of Greenwood, passed away at Clark County Rehab & Living Center in Owen, on Friday, December 10, 2021.

Mary Ellen Weyer was born on May 13, 1947, in Loyal, the daughter of Michael C. and Mary A. (Walter) Weyer. She was raised in Loyal, attended St. Anthony School, and graduated high school from St. Mary's Academy in Prairie du Chien. Mary Ellen then attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Marshfield, graduating in 1968. She was united in marriage to David Allen Volovsek on June 28, 1969, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal. Mary Ellen worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield until April 1975, when her husband started a sawmill business which they both operated together. After Dave's death on July 19, 2005, she continued living at home where she enjoyed gardening and polka dancing. She also enjoyed traveling in the US, Canada, and Europe and working in the fall at the cranberry marsh. Most recently, Mary Ellen helped her son, Jeff, run Wedges Creek Hideaway on the family's homeplace. She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard.

Mary Ellen will be dearly missed by her two sons: Jeff (Becky) of Hudson, Greg (Carolyn) of Greenwood; four grandchildren: John, Anna, Henry and Olive Volovsek; 10 siblings: Joan (LaVerne "Pete") Lindner of Loyal, Lawrence "Hap" (JoAnn) Weyer of Loyal, Shirley Lindner of Loyal, Tom (Dawn) Weyer of Greenwood, Rosemary Volovsek of Marshfield, Pat (Gary) Rhinehart of Anchorage, AK, Chris (Jeff) Parker of Loyal, Peter Weyer of Greenwood, Paul (Cindy) Weyer of Loyal, Mark (Nan) Weyer of Loyal; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She will be remembered for her incredible work ethic, friendliness, hospitality, and beautiful smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dave; a brother, John Weyer; brothers-in-law, Mike Volovsek and Art Lindner, and sister-in-law, Andrea Weyer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. Rev. Leo Johnson will officiate, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Duane Weyer, Todd Weyer, Jay Volovsek, Perry Lindner, Michael Weyer, and Steven Weyer. Visitation will be held at the church, on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and again on Friday, from 9 a.m. until time of service, with a luncheon following the service.
