Schafer, Kenneth D. (15 May1941 – 11 December 2021)

Kenneth D. Schafer, 80, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at his home in Spencer.

Ken was born on May 15, 1941 in the Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County; the son of Alfred and Adeline (Colvin) Schafer. He attended school at McArthur Grade School in Little Rose and graduated from Stratford High School. Early on, Ken worked with his father as a logger later becoming employed as an over the road driver specializing in hauling heavy equipment.

In his spare time, Ken enjoyed woodworking and puttering around the house. He looked forward to deer hunting every year or getting out to take ride on his motorcycle He had the gift of gab and enjoyed visiting with the neighbors whenever he could.

Those who will cherish his memory include his children: Wade (Tammie) Schafer of Bumpus Mills, TN, Jeannie (Eric) Ours of Spencer and Bret (Pattie) Schafer of Arpin; his grandchildren: Kenneth, Ashley, Bradley, David, Alyssa, Daniel, Jay, Dylan, Britney and Ryan and his great-grandchildren: Landyn, Alex, Ryker, Zayne, Arian, Remi and Porter. He is further survived by his siblings, Roland Schafer, Jeanette (Thomas) Paun, Roger Schafer, Judy (Reed) Sazama and Debra (Jeff) Purvis along with many other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Adeline; his first wife, Joyce; his second wife, Kay; his sister, Carol Zoller and his sister-in-law Marlene Schafer and Elizabeth (Kay) Schafer and his beloved feline companion “Cottonball“.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 P.M. on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer with Rev. Mark Krueger officiating. Committal services will follow at West Spencer Cemetery in the Town of Sherman. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 P.M. until time of service. The honor of pallbearer will belong to Ken's grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that’s memorials in Ken’s name be directed to your favorite local humane society.
