Shirk, Betty B. (29 March 1947 – 12 December 2021)

Betty B. Shirk, age 74 years, 8 months and 12 days, of Withee, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Betty was born on March 29, 1947, in Beartown, Narvon Lancaster County, PA, the daughter of Christian Z. and Elizabeth B. (Brubacher) Kilmer. She was united in marriage to Eli W. Shirk on August 21, 1975, in Barnett, MO. They lived in Liberty, KY from 1981 to 1988 and moved to Wisconsin in 1988. Betty was a school van driver and taxi driver for the Mennonites. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, flowers and watching birds.

On 10/30/21 Betty went to the Marshfield Clinic for an appointment and had low oxygen levels and they immediately hospitalized her, later they found out she had Covid, after she was admitted. Betty had viral pneumonia and then later she also developed bacterial pneumonia! She passed peacefully with her family by her side. When things got tough, she always found a way to get through it and never gave up and kept a positive attitude without complaining. When you thought things were impossible Betty Shirk made it look possible to achieve anything. Luke 18:27.

Betty is survived by her husband: Eli; children: Emma K. Shirk of Rutledge, MO, James Edward (Lori) Shirk of Clarksville, TN and Cora Louise (Travis) Makovsky of Withee ; grandchildren; James W. Shirk, Carlee Shyann Burns, Talena Nicole Dees, Eva Marie Makovsky, Elena Raye Makovsky and Connor Joseph Makovsky. She is further survived by her siblings; Kathryn Ramer of Missouri, Florence Nolt of Pennsylvania, Ada (Phares) Zimmerman of Pennsylvania, Barbara (Walter) Zimmerman of Missouri, twin sister; Bertha (Samuel) Shirk of Tennessee, Aaron Kilmer of Missouri and Esther (Aaron) Shirk of Wisconsin, brother-in-law; Roy Martin of Missouri, sisters-in-law; Emma Martin of Missouri, Cora Kilmer of Missouri and Leora Oberholtzer of Missouri.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Christian and Elizabeth; sisters; Naomi Martin and Mary Ann Hoover, brothers; Maynard Kilmer and John Kilmer, brothers-in-law; Menno Ramer, Lester Martin, Raymond Nolt and Lloyd Hoover, sisters-in-law; Ruby Kilmer and Annie Kilmer.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021, at Clark View Mennonite Church in the Town of Longwood. Her final resting place will be at the church cemetery. Virgil Martin, Ivan Sloan, Elvin Hoover, Randall Martin, and Jerry Brubaker will officiate. Pallbearers will be, James Shirk, Moses Shirk, Albert Zimmerman, Kenneth Shirk, Adlai Kilmer and Ralph Zimmerman. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Central Wisconsin Produce Auction Barn in Withee. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is assisting the family with arrangements.
