Buhrow, Greg (Service Award - 1984)

A ten-year service award was recently presented to Greg Buhrow of Neillsville. Greg is an employee of Badger State Telephone in Neillsville. Presenting the award is telephone company district manager Stan Carbaugh.

Puschek, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert (Golden – 30 June 1984)

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Puschek of Chili will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday June 30. Herb Pushek and Ella Sanger were married in Oak Park, Illinois, on June 30, 1934. He is a Forest Park, Illinois, native, and she is Clark County native, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Sanger.

Ella taught school in Lynn for several years. Herb was a farm implement (International Harvester) dealer in Chili for many years. He was also a contractor affiliated with Butler buildings. Herb is a long-time member of the Neillsville Memorial Hospital board of directors. He is also on the board of Frist National Bank at Neillsville. Both Herb and Ella remain active in community affairs and are member of Grace Lutheran Church of Nasonville.

The Puscheck’s have two children, Mrs. Mary Kronberger of Wisconsin Rapids and Herbert C. of Alexandria, Virginia. They have five grandchildren.

A small family celebration is planned to mark the golden anniversary.

Amys, Kerri L. (15 June 1984)

Haiku Gardens in Honolulu was the May 15, setting for the wedding of Keri L. Amys and Brett K. Montgomery, both of Greenfield. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Allen Montgomery of Granton. Parents of the bride are Ronald Amys of Brookfield and Karla Amys of Waukesha.

The Rev. Milton Gundermann officiated at the wedding ceremony. Witnesses were the groom’s sister Colleen Michaelis and the bride’s brother Russ Amys.

A luncheon was held following the wedding. The couple spent their two-week honeymoon on Oahu and Maui. On June 8, a reception was held in the Milwaukee area.

The new Mrs. Montgomery is attending Alverno College and is employed by the Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee. Her husband is employed by Wisconsin Electric. They are making their home in Greenfield.

Burke, Sandra Lee (5 May 1984)

Sandra Lee Burke and Dennis “Pooch” John Olson were united in marriage on Saturday, May 5, at
Christ Lutheran Church, Stoughton. Pastor Bob Alley officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mare Burke, Madison. The groom is the son of Hubert and Arlene Olson, Stoughton, formerly of Neillsville.

Serving as matron of honor was Sandy Ott, friend of the bride of Madison. She was joined by Alice Kualheim, friend of the bride of Cambridge, and Deb Olson, sister of the groom of Rochester, Minnesota. Jennifer Isaacson, Tiffany Trummer and Tina Wagner, nieces of the bride, were miniature bridesmaids.

Bestman was Mark Arneson, friend of the groom, Stoughton. He was joined by Dvid Olson of Stoughton and Steven Olson of Stevens Point, brother of the groom. Ushering were Larry Olson and Jim Loehr, friends of the groom, both of Stoughton.

The bride chose a gown of ivory satinessa trimmed with pears and lace. She carried a bouquet of ivory roses and baby’s breath. Her attendants wore light-blue satin dresses and carried candles adorned with blue carnations, ivory roses and baby’s breath. The groom was attired in an ivory tuxedo and his attendants wore light-blue tuxedos.

Following the service, a reception and dance was held at Viking Lanes, Stoughton. After their honeymoon in Florida, the new Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Olson will make their home in Stoughton. She is employed by Universal Silencer, and he is employed by Nelson Muffler.

Karstens, Christine Sue (16 June 1984)

Christine Sue Karstens and Jeffrey Scott Miller were united in marriage on Saturday afternoon, June 16, at the Neillsville United Church of Christ. The Rev. Alwyn York of Greenwood officiated.

Parents of the bride are Steve Karstens of Neillsville and Pam Karstens of Marshfield. The groom’s parents are Clarence and Anita Miller, Neillsville.

Pam Kessler offered the music for the ceremony.

Serving as maid of honor was Julie Karstens, the bride’s sister of Neillsville. She was joined by friends Jane Tock, Debbie DeMert and Chris Ewer, all of Neillsville, and Sarah Miller of Wausau.

Bestman was Jim Spiegel of Neillsville. He was joined by John Urlaub, Dan Kessler, the bride’s brother Mark Karstens and Dave Marg, all of Neillsville. Ushering were the groom’s brother, Dan Miller and Roger Kosmosky, both of Neillsville.

The bride chose an off-the shoulder gown in silk organza and taffeta, which was trimmed in seed pearls and carried small pink roses on the bodice. She carried a bouquet of sweetheart roses, miniature carnations and baby’s breath. Her attendants wore lavender gowns in the off-the-shoulder style and carried bouquets of lavender carnations and baby’s breath. The groom and his attendants were attired in gray tuxedos.

Following the service, a reception was held at the Wild Cat Inn, followed by a dance at the Silver Dome Ballroom.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Miller will make their home in Neillsville. She is employed at Neillsville Memorial Hospital, and he is employed at Nelson Muffler.

Meyers, Julie Kay (16 June 1984)

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood was the site for the Saturday afternoon, June 16, wedding of Julie Kay Meyers and Scott Lee Schmidt. The Rev. Richard Sorenson officiated.

Parents of the bride are Leniel Meyers of Rt. 1 Greenwood, and the late Lois Meyers. The groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Norman Schmidt, Rt. 1 Loyal.

Music at the service was offered by Brenda Noah and Jim and Sue Olson.

Paulette Fontaine, a friend of the bride from Greenwood, was maid of honor. She was joined by Gretchen Liebzeit, a friend from Greenwood; Lona Schmidt, the groom’s sister of Loyal; and Nancy Clintsman, a friend of Greenwood.

Bestman was Richard Tartes, a friend of Loyal. Groomsmen were Louie Hebert and Lorin Denk, both friends from Greenwood, and Chad Schmidt, the groom’s brother of Loyal. Ushering was Steve Knoll of Mountain and Bob Beutty of Lindenhurst, Illinois. Ringbearer was Grey Hinker of Loyal and Holly Hansen of Greenwood was flowergirl.

The bride chose a taffeta gown featuring Venician appliques, Chantilly lace and chapel-length train. Her picture-style hat was in the birdcage design. She carried a nosegay of lavender and white daisies, a while rose, lavender carnations and baby’s breath. Her attendants wore organza gowns in orchid hues and featuring peek-a-boo fronts. They also carried nosegays similar to the bride’s/ The groom and his attendants were attired in light gray tuxedos.

Following the service, a reception was held at the Loyal American Legion Hall.

The bride is a 1983 graduate of Greenwood High School and is attending the City College of Cosmetology in Eau Claire. The groom, a 1983 graduate of Loyal High School, attended UW-Stout and graduated from Madison’s Wisconsin School of Electronics.

Zajicek, Milton F. (28 September 1918 – 17 June 1984) With Flag

Milton F. Zajicek, 65, was found dead at his Rt. 1 Willard, home on Sunday, June 17. His death was ruled a suicide by Clark County Coroner, Robert Lulloff. His body was found by his sister, shortly before noon on Sunday in his car in the garage of his Rock Dam home. It was ruled death caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.

The deceased was born on September 28, 1918, in Chicago to Joseph and Herminia (Pokoula) Zajicek. He received his education in Chicago schools and then worked as a commercial painter. In 1972 he moved to Harshaw where he worked for a Rhinelander drill company. He retired in 1976 and in 1983 moved to the Town of Foster.

On June 1, 1940, he married Bernice Lewandowski in Chicago ceremonies.

Zajicek was with the U.S. Army Air Force from May of 1942 to January 1946 and served in the Pacific Theatre.

Surviving him is a sister and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; the latter in late May of this year.

The body was to be cremated with interment in Clarendon Hills Cemetery, Chicago. There were no visitations or funeral services. The Gesche Funeral Home of Neillsville was in charge of arrangements.
