Trunkel, Joseph (Service Notes - 1980)

A Neillsville High School senior has joined the Navy’s Delayed Entry Program. Joseph Trunkel, so of Mr. and Mrs. John Trunkel, Neillsville, was sworn in at Minneapolis on February 5.

He will attend recruit training at the Navy Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois., after which he will attend the Radioman school in San Diego, California. This 400-hour course will cover the operation and coordination of communication systems, including satellite data links and voice and teletype circuits.

Trunkel, 18, will report for active duty on July 1. The Delayed Entry Program allows participants to enlist now but leave for active duty at a later date.
