A beautiful fall wedding took place at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church at thorp when Miss Irene Schmidt of St. Paul, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hermiss Schmidt, became the bride of Rolf Anderson, son of Mrs. Oscar Knutson of St. Paul, Saturday, September 30, 1973. Father Brockman performed the 2 p.m. double ring ceremony before the altar beautifully decorated with baskets of orange painted mums and greens.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was wearing a Sata Peau silk floor length white empire A-line gown, stand up collar, long fitted sleeves, bow at back which swept into a chapel length train flounce which was of matching lace to yoke and ruffle on the sleeve. Completing the bridal ensemble was a shoulder length veil trimmed with lace, caught to a Juliet cap trimmed with seed pearls. The bride’s spiral bouquet was white roses.

Miss Ramona Schmidt of Eau Claire was her sister’s maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Joyce Anderson and Miss Marie Ward, both of Minneapolis, friends of the bride. They wore identical floor length hot pepper colored gowns, empire A-line crepe trimmed with ruffle and pockets, long sleeves with ruffle edge cuffs, large picture hats with streamers to match the gowns. Their bouquets were white carnations and mums tipped in hot pepper shade.

The best man was George Postier, and groomsmen were Pat Larson and Dick Stark. Ushers were Dale Norman of St Paul and Brent Thompson of Minneapolis, all friends of the groom. They wore tuxedos with dark gray coats and striped trousers with carnation boutonnieres.

The bride’s mother greeted the guests in a long crepe floral gown with gold dots, long sleeves and gold accessories. Her corsage was white mums tied with a gold ribbon. The mother of the groom wore a mint colored long gown with white dots, long plain sheer sleeves, white accessories, corsage was white mums.

The bride placed a bouquet on the Blessed Virgin Altar as the soloist, Joe Possley sang “On This Day Oh Beautiful Mother,” accompanied by Roger Truckey on the organ.

Reception immediately followed the ceremony at St. Hedwig’s Hall. Dinner was served to 300 guests at4 o’clock. Jerry Wiles’ Orchestra entertained, and dancing took place from 8 to 12. The beautiful wedding cake was cut by the bride’s aunts, Mrs. Mayme Milligan and Sister Cecelia Schmidt.

The bride is employed at the University of Wisconsin, Stout as Principal Secretary. The groom, is a student at the University. They are now at home at 306 East Hoyt Ave., St. Paul.
