Decker, Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Golden - 1979)

Relatives and friends attended a dinner Saturday evening, September 8, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Walter Decker, Rt. 2 Greenwood, in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. The event was held at the Bali Hai Supper Club in Neillsville, Original attendants present were Mr. and Mrs. Arno Miller of Loyal and Mrs. Erna Wehrman of Greenwood.

Walter Decker and Martha Miller were married August 28, 1929, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller. The Rev. Paul Franzmeier officiated. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Decker. Both honorees were born in Greenwood and received their education in the Greenwood schools.

After their marriage, they lived near Greenwood in the Town of Eaton, where they were occupied in cheesemaking in the West Eaton Cheese Factory. In 1934, they went to Peru, Ind., and made cheese there until they moved to Chicago in 1945 where he was employed by Seal Test.

They moved to their present farm, four miles west of Greenwood in 1951, after the death of his father. They are both members of the Immanuel United Church of Christ. In 1972, they were honored for having a farm 100 years in the same family.

Besides the original attendants’ others present for the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Goeke, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Noeldner and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Suda.
