Granton FFA (Awards - 1979)
Granton FFA highlighted their year with an awards program recently at the
Granton High School. Wayne Kleckner, a Town of Lynn, farmer, received the
Progressive Dairyman’s award in recognition of his modern diary practices. His
herd averages over 600 pounds of butterfat per cow.
Winning the Chapter Star Farmer award was Tom Hasz, who is a senior this year
and president of the Granton FFA. Nanette Daleiden, a junior, won the Hewitt
Packing trophy given annually to a student who excels in livestock [production;
she raised champion hogs for both the county fair and a junior livestock show in
Eau Claire.
Lynn Dairy presented the Star Greenhand award to Kevin Winter. Tim Foemmel won
the Chili Milk Pool trophy for the best herd testing job. Chapter trophies were
given to Dal Drinsinger, Greg Olson and Mike Martin for receiving a superior
rating in the state judging contest in livestock judging. The trophy winner in
the Hoard’s Dairyman contest went to Terry Vandeberg, a freshman who received a
score of 440 out of 500 possible points.
Tom Hasz, Nick Daleiden and Marvin Richmond were recognized as Wisconsin State
Farmers, and they will receive their charms in June at the state FFA convention.
JDA trophies were presented to Kevin Winter and Larry Jennings, who are one of
the five state finalists in the demonstration contest and will compete for state
honors in June at Manitowoc.
Lynn Dairy presented trophies to Larry Jennings, Kevin Winter, Greg Olson, and
Kevin Kleckner for winning the county diary judging contest.
Eleven members were awarded FFA trophies for all-around FFA achievements this
year. They are Marvin Richmond, Tom Hasz, Nick Daleiden, Larry White, Arthur
Dahl, Gary Roehl, Dale Drinsinger, Kevin Winter, Mike Bletsoe, Larry Jennings
and Darin Garbisch.
The top salesman trophy went to Gary Roehl. The outstanding speaking trophies
went to Larry Jennings in oratory, Jay Parker in creed speaking and Marvin
Richmond in extemporaneous speaking.
Marvin Richmond was presented a Kleen-Lean hog from the O.W. Trindal Company of
Loyal. DeKalb seed corn presented awards to Tom Hasz, Tom Dix and Marvin
Richmond.
A program preceded the awards program in which a number presented their
award-winning speeches. Tom Hasz gave his retiring address as president and
Marvin Richmond assumed the presidency for the next year.
A dairy lunch ended the evening’s program.
