Merrillan, Lions Club Happenings (1979)

Dick Fischer has been elected president of the Merrillan Lions Club. Elected with him are Ray Tesmer, first vice-president; Roy Eddy, second vice-president; Robert Gile, third vice-president; Larry Comstock, secretary; David Olson, treasurer; Frank Chernach, tail twister; William Potter, Lion tamer; and Robert Olson and William “Jitters” Johnson, directors. Holdover directors are Louis Hayden and Kenneth Ristow.

Fischer and Dick Girouard attended the state Lions convention held in Oshkosh, May 17, to 19, to represent the club.

During the past year, the local club has contributed to the United School District Little League; $1.00 per member for Lions International Foundation; $200 to Wisconsin Lions Foundation; $200 to Leader Dog School in Rochester, Mi; and a contribution to the School District Cub Scouts. Over 50 pair of eye glasses were collected in contribution boxes place in the Merrillan Station of the Jackson County Bank and the Gile Agency. The club also collects hearing aids.
