William D. Polnaszek, owner and director of the Polnaszek Funeral Home, Union Grove, Wisconsin, a native of Thorp, received the “Man of the Year” award presented by the Union Grove Chamber of Chomerce during a Recognition Nigh dinner at Burlingshire, Browns Lake.

In presenting the walnut and bronze plaque, Harrison W. Nichols, Chamber past present and chairman of the dinner, said of Polnaszek, “No man in Union Grove’s history has touched more of a cross-section of the community. Bill Polnaszek is an outstanding, aggressive business leader, who is enthusiastic and interested in people. He has made many meaningful contributions to this community.”

On June 1, 1966, Polnaszek became owner and direction of the Former Rhode Funeral Home, which had been operated by four generations of the same Union Grove family for 97 years.

Among Polnaszek’s early interests in Union Grove was coaching the Little League baseball team for four years. He was commander of Bixby-Hansen American Legion Post in 1970-71 tem, and is currently president of the Union Grove Lions Club.

He is on the Board of Directors of the Memorial Pool Corporation and has been chairman of the Pool Boosters and the campaign cabinet, which conducted the recent drive for funds to build a community swimming pool to serve Union Grove and neighboring areas.
