Dorchester Recreational Park was the scene of a Staab family reunion Sunday, May 28, 1972, the first reunion for descendants of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Staab and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johann Staab, who came to this county and to the Dorchester from Rotenburg, Germany in 1881. They settled on a farm about two and one half miles west of Dorchester at that time. John Staab, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Staab, was the first white child to be born in Dorchester. He was the father of Bernard and Edward Staab, who live at Dorchester now.

There were 63 persons present Sunday for a potluck dinner and afternoon lunch at the park. Pictures and keepsakes of many years ago were displayed, and some of the messages written in German were translated by Frank Gobernatz for the younger generation present.
