Harris, Edwin J. (2 October 1902 – 21 April 1978)

Edwin J. Harris, 75, died Friday, April 21, at Sacred Heart hospital, Eau Claire. Born October 2,1902, in the Town of Cleveland, Jackson Co., to John and Susan Harris, he married Lena Terrell in 1924, and was a lifelong resident of Humbird. Harris was an employee of the Humbird Canning Co. until his retirement. On August 16, 1974, Mr. and Mrs. Harris celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Bruce of Windsor, two daughters, Muriel Manthe, Tomah, and Sharon Timpe, Mequon; three brothers John and Henry, Altoona, and Paul of Tacoma, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Robert Buchholz, Inglewood, Calif.; five grandchildren, Debby Harris, Marsha Schuetz, Mark and Scott Manthe and Cindy Timpe. He was preceded in death by one son, Rolland, in 1949, one brother, three sisters and one great-grandson.

Services were held Sunday at the United Church of Christ, Humbird, with the Rev. Alvin Ebert officiating. The organist was Nelda Stuve with Mary Ann Johnson, soloist. Pallbearers were Harlan Bemis, Jack Stanley, Art Zerbel, Don Zerbel, Alton O’Leary and Lee Janke. Burial was in Mentor Cemetery. The Jensen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Lunch was served at the Humbird Community Hall by the community women.

Relatives attending the funeral were Mr./Mrs. David Schuetz, Plymouth; Mark Manthe, Mequon; Scott Manthe, Tomah; Debby Harris, Windsor; Mr./Mrs. Harold Harris, Baraboo; Elmer Garber and Mr./Mrs. Paul Bradford, Eau Claire; Mr./Mrs. Henry Harris, Fern and Kenny, and John Harris and daughter and Katherine Schmidt, Altoona; Mr./Mrs. Vaughn Ness and family and Mr./Mrs. Steven Ness and family, all of Apple Valley, Minn.; Mr./Mrs. George Wright and family, Tomah; Evelyn Tester and Dorothy Zimmerman, Black River Falls; Mr./Mrs. Erwin Giese and Rinehart Gower, Alma Center; Oswald Michael, Hixton; Mr./Mrs. Hugh Terrell, Ruth Giloy and Mr./Mrs. Earl Zimmer, Humbird, and also a host of many friends.
