Bill, Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Meyer and Mike Lamont, son of Mr. and

Wisconsin’s top high school mathematics, after a statewide contest.
Winners were announced by Arthur F. Brownell of the UW- La Crosse, chairman of
the contest conducted by the Wisconsin Section of the Mathematical Association
of America (M.A.A.) on March 25, 1972.
More than 21,000 students representing 331 high schools, participated in a
preliminary examination on February 10, 1972. The final contest for students who
scored highest on the February 10 test, was taken by more than 1100 students
from 232 school. This essay-type test was given at more than two dozen centers
throughout the state. It was scored on the basis of correctness of solutions,
method of attack, evidence of sound reasoning.
The contest is designed to identify and reward outstanding mathematics students
early in their careers, so they can be encouraged to continue their studies in
mathematics or related fields.
Cash prizes and certificates of merit will be awarded to the top 118 winners. A
gold-filled M.A.A. pin is sent to the top 23 winners as well.
