Young, Omar (Heroism - 2021)

Granton resident Omar Young was honored recently for heroism he showed when Val and Dawn Dahlke’s home caught fire Feb. 22 and was destroyed beyond repair. “When the fire department pulled up, the house was fully engulfed and Josh [Opelt] and Omar [Young] were pulling the occupants out of the house,” wrote Granton Fire Chief Gary Eibergen. To honor Opelt and Young, Granton Area Fire and Rescue members drove the fire trucks to each of their homes to present them with the Distinguished Service Award as part of the fire department’s May meeting.
